What To Do With This Place? at 11:49 ET by QAPete
Amazingly, and after much consideration, I've decided to start sinking more time into BeyondUnreal in general, and this site in particular. I'm still not sure what I'm going to use this little nook of the BU universe for. I might clear it all out and make it a hosted blog, or perhaps talk with the FragBU guys about utilizing it to publicize that. (Yes, FragBU exists and is doing quite nicely, thank you!)
I actually booted up UT2004 over the past couple of weeks, and while I suck beyond belief, it was a very enjoyable experience. I'm still partial to CTF, it would seem, and I still can't wall-jump. (chuckle) Still, with this renewed interest in playing the game, I might pop my head online at some point in FragBU and offer myself up as FreshMeat(tm) for the skilled killers there.
Anyway, it's great to 'see' you all again, and you'll be hearing from me on the main site soon enough. I have a LOT of catching up to do, plenty of things to tidy up around the site, and much to re-learn again regarding posting content here. I'm looking forward to the experience!

Hey America, Wake The Fuck Up Already! at 20:42 ET by QAPete
You heard me. Wake the fuck up, America! You are losing your liberties every day to a moral MINORITY that is sucking the very life out of our country. One stinkin' breast exposed on broadcast TV for a second or so (if you've been living in a cave, I'm talking about Janet Jackson), and Congress is passing laws, programming on TV is becoming even more lame than it was before reality TV killed off more expensive scripted/acted shows, and now we have one of our esteemed representatives going after the cable and satellite industry, which are PAY SUBSCRIPTION SERVICES.
Don't you all see how governmental oversight on what we can see/hear and not see/hear is destroying our country? There is no acceptable reason in the world that, while we have a right-wing president, senate and house of representatives, we should see and hear so much right-wing propoganda, but barely - by the skin of our teeth - get to see the point of view expressed by Michael Moore in Farenheit 911.
Don't be a sheep. If you are an American, write your congressman and let him or her know that you absolutely do not want MORE censorship in the way of controls over cable and satellite TV and radio. Get the word out that you have the right, as a paying subscriber, to see whatever you want, whenever you want, and that government has no business interfering with that. Please, stop the madness, already....

Dek Hockey Season Begins at 15:02 ET by QAPete
A day after my 44th birthday (thanks to those of you who sent me a note), our Dek hockey season has begun here in Pottstown, PA. What's Dek hockey, you ask? Hockey played on blacktop, using a ball instead of a puck and sneakers instead of skates. It's a great game, one I played when I was a kid, and it's a lot of fun watching my two kids play.
We had a mixed result in today's opener. My younger son, 'Big A', lost his game, as his goalie gave up two REALLY bad goals that were virtually rink-length shots that just rolled in, right past him. Very sad. My older son, 'Bonedigger', scored two goals in a 6-0 humiliation of their unworthy opponent.
As it seems to be every year when Dek hockey begins, the weather was unforgivably cold and damp, with just enough of a breeze to eventually cut through anything you might be wearing and chill you to the bone. I think cold, damp weather is in the league by-laws or something.
A heads-up for the 14 people who read this page... BeyondUnreal's FactoryUnreal mirror comes to an end at the end of the day. Dubious is getting out of the Unreal community, and has sold his servers. We'll post an announcement on BU proper tomorrow, but I wanted to get a jump on things here and thank Dubious for his support, not only for what he's done for BeyondUnreal, but for his long involvement with the Unreal community. Dub is a guy who's always put his money where his mouth is, and laid it right out on the line for all you Unreal peeps. Big props, and my best wishes to him in all he does in the future.

Siriusly Cool at 09:06 ET by QAPete
After an extreme case of jealousy over the XM satellite radio in Mrs. QAPete's new Honda Accord EXV6, I decided that I must have satellite radio in my 1999 Durango. Being a Howard Stern fan from waaaaaay back (Hartford, CT), I decided to get the Sirius Sportster radio, a car kit and the boombox that it uses. Howard, BTW, is moving to Sirius in January 2006. (The following image changes along with the Sirius programming I'm currently enjoying)

Activation was a snap (do it online, save yourself $5), and in minutes after bringing the radio home, I was enjoying a selection of over 120 channels of commercial-free music, news, sports and talk radio on the boombox.
The sound quality is stellar, as you might expect digital satellite radio to be. I quickly ripped through the setup menus and instructed the radio to skip a number of streams (channels) that I had no interest in whatsoever. In a couple of minutes, the stream list was pruned sufficiently for a first cut, and I was surfing away.
There are a couple of really nice features in this particular model. First, since Sirius carries all of the NFL, NBA and NHL (damn, wish there was a season...) games, you can set 'Game Alerts', which will either prompt you when your favorite team is beginning a broadcast, or send your radio score updates as the game progresses. I tried this with the 76ers, and it worked great as I watched the Phoenix Suns demolish them.
Another cool feature is how the Sirius Sportster memory functions work. You can easily store a 'memo' when a fav tune is playing, then just as easily tell your radio to send you an alert whenever that artist/song is on any Sirius stream.
Installation of the car kit was a breeze with the magnetic antenna and ample wire length. Starting at the top rear of the Durango, I fished the wire inside, hiding it under rubber mouldings, console and accent pieces until I was at the mounting point I wanted to use. A quick swab of alcohol to clean the mounting surface in front of my center console was all I needed to do prior to sticking the self-adhesive mount to the surface.
The built-in FM transmitter can be set to any frequency you choose. This is great, because you want to find one that is nothing but white noise. When the Sportster kicks in, you hear nothing but digital-quality audio without static.
If you're a music afficianado, and get tired of FM stations playing the same 'ol, same 'ol and fading out as you drive from town to town, check out Sirius satellite radio. I would be shocked if you were anything but delighted.

New Wheels at 12:59 ET by QAPete
Out with the 1994 Mercury Villager, in with the new 2005 Honda Accord EXV6! Finally, we don't have a minivan in the family. This helps greatly as I approach my 44th birthday.
As promised, here are a handful of pics of the new wheels:
