To start off, let's begin with an introduction to the Assault gametype,
discussing the basics.
The game consists of two teams, attackers and defenders, each with a unique
goal. The attacker's job is to penetrate the enemy base and destroy several
key locations. The defender's job is to protect their base and key locations
from the assaulting team.
Assault is played over two rounds, with teams switching sides after a
successful or failed assault, so both teams have to attack and defend once
before victory is determined. Time is critical in an Assault game, the
longer it takes you to succeed in attacking, the longer you must defend the
base. The faster you conquer the base, the less time the enemy will have to
beat you, making defense easier for you.
To clarify, if you have ten minutes to take the enemy base and you succeed
in five, then the map will restart and you must defend the base for five
minutes. If the enemy manages to destroy the objectives, you have failed,
and you lose. If they can't, you defended the base properly, and you win.
Each assault map is unique in design. It may take time to learn the layout
and develop strategies to attack or defend successfully. The Assault Bonus
Pack includes additional maps, some (if not all) better than the originals,
and makes practice a lot easier (and more fun) thanks to its helpful
features.
